CompareContrast Van Gogh and Chagall - 806 Words

Comparte/Contrast Van Gogh and Chagall For this essay, I chose to compare and contrast Vincent van Gogh’s â€Å"Starry Night† with Marc Chagall’s â€Å"I and the Village†. The two pieces are lovely and most interesting to evaluate in relationship to one another. I personally love both artists and upon closely examining these famous pieces, I have noticed how similar yet different these works of art are. Vincent van Gogh was a deeply troubled, post-impressionist artist and his painting â€Å"Starry Night† is his most famous piece. Working from memory, he painted the oil on canvas passing the time in Saint-Remy-de-Provence located in southern France while undergoing treatment in an insane asylum. The piece is very energetic with eleven fireball†¦show more content†¦Marc Chagall and Vincent van Gogh are really quite different. They are from two different time periods, Chagall being a modernist and van Gogh a post-impressionist. They also have different cultural backgrounds. Ma rc Chagall was most emphatically a Jewish artist and he was Russian born. Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch painter who was called to be a Christian evangelist at one time. The two paintings differ in that Chagall’s forms are more geometrical, giving the impression of precision while Van Gogh’s figures are much more organic in nature containing lots of bright, swirly spirals. â€Å"I and the Village† is composed of blue, green, white and red colors while Van Gogh’s â€Å"Starry Night† contains blue, green, white and yellow. As this essay draws to a close, I can honestly say that it has been most educational. Now that I know a lot more about Vincent van Gogh and Marc Chagall, I am experiencing a heightened interest in studying their life histories and other works of art. I loved both pieces and feel a new relatedness to

Professional Issues of Information Technology

Question: Doiscuss about the Professional Issues of Information Technology. Answer: Introduction: Even though Joe is a student, and might fail in considered himself as an IT (Information Technology) Professional, but being the student of the ACS (Australian Computer Society), he is expected to follow the Code. This code contains in the tenet on Priorities, under 1.2 that the members have to preserve the security, and under 1.3, they have to respect the proprietary nature of the information belonging to others, as is stated under 2.4. The tenet regarding professionalism under 6.2 provides that the members have to refrain from knowingly getting indulged in the dishonest practices. The members of the Association for Computing Machinery are required to adhere to the ACM Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. The General Moral Imperatives contained under this code, contain the obligations of the ACM members. This includes the obligation under 1.5 to honor the property rights. The specific professional responsibilities are also contained in this code, which includes 2.3, to know and to respect the existent laws which are related to the professional work; and the 2.8 the obligation to access the communication and computing resources only when the person has been authorized to do so. Even a student is required to follow this Code of ethics, before they become computing professionals. In the given case, Joe clearly breached all the tenets stated in the ACS Code of Ethics, as he failed to respect the information which belonged to other and which he was not authorized to use. As a student, he was reasonably aware of the Code of Ethics and yet he knowingly used the information, even when he was not given the authorization. And in doing so, he failed to preserve the security of the information. Also, the ACM Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct had to be followed by Joe, which he breached by accessing the property without the authority of doing so. He failed to honor the property rights, and respect the laws. Moreover, the obligation 2.8 regarding accessing the communication and computing resources without authorization, was totally breached. So, the actions of Joe did violate the property rights. The actions of Joe have affected not only his prospects at the university, but also the instructor, the individual whose information was present on the computer system he used, which includes all the students, as the computer was of the campus and it contained information pertaining to such students over its network, in addition to the computer centre operators. The instructor is one of the key persons who are affected by the actions of Joe. This is because he had allotted the task to Joe and when Joe tried reaching him, he could not be reached. So, when the action is brought against Joe, he would clearly blame the instructor. The individuals whose information is on the computer, have all been affected, as the computer was accessed by a person without authorization, and this puts their information at a risk of being misused. Along with this, the computer centre operators could also be affected, as a person who did not have the authorization was able to access the systems, which puts the security of the whole system at risk. So, the actions of Joe have created a chain reaction of problems for a number of people. Had I been in the position of Joe, I would have ensured that the ACS Code of Ethics, as well as, the ACM Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct was followed completely. Being an IT student, I am bound to follow these ethics in the future and so, I would make sure that I inculcate the habit of following them from now only. And in case I face similar circumstances as Joe, I would make certain that either I get the right authorization to access the system or ensure that the person having such authorization is present when such is needed, and if such person is not available, then wait for the arrival of a person who does have the requisite authorization. World Wide Web In this day and age, where nearly every person has access to internet, it becomes difficult to ascertain which information over the website is authentic and which is not. This is because, anyone with a working computing system and a web connectivity, can put anything over the internet, which may or may not have any ounce of truth behind it. And a few clicks here and there can fetch the results on creating a website. So, the question is often raised, how can one validate that the information that is being read over a website is really the truth or is a pure faade? In order to evaluate this, one should always look at certain key points. These include: The sponsor of the page: when a person opens up a website, the first wordings after the term www consists of the name of the organization or the individual behind the website. For instance, the government websites https://www.australia.gov.au/information-and-services/it-and-communications shows that this is an Australian Government website. And when the sponsor or source of any website can be authenticated, as in the given case, it can be deemed that the information provided by such website is genuine. Contact Information: If a website is able to provide the full address and contact details, it is probably an authentic website and the material on such website can be trusted. Though, often fake contact information is provided, so this criterion has to be used with the other criteria stated here. Does any other website show similar information?: In case one comes across a website, which states something, which cannot be found anywhere else, this means there is no backing to the information and so, it is probably fake. Time: An individual also has to consider if the website is active and provides latest information. If the information is not dated, then the copyright should be checked to judge if the website is active. For instance, a website depicts some information, which has no date and has a copyright of 2000; in such case, it is better to ignore such information. Objectivity: the information which is provided over the internet is one side, or evaluates both the sides can also determine if the information is correct. In case a website keeps only one point of view or reflects an opinion which is completely against a particular group, then it is a possibility that a page is sponsored by a certain group, which makes the information unreliable. Authentic: The information provided is from an established or authentic source or not is also to be noted. If the information provided on the website is cited from different sources, then such information is definitely credible. Moreover, websites which provide things like privacy statement, terms and conditions, about and the like are information whose information can be relied upon. There are also instances, where the authentic websites display certain information, where a disclaimer is put that the information contained is the views of the author and not of the website. Even such information is authentic due to the reliability and disclaimer. Apart from this, things like domain name, the Top Level Domain, for instance, .com, .gov, .au, also provide the validity to the content of a website. The websites which turns the web address in green are indicator of safe websites, which have authentic backing and hence, can be trusted upon. Another way of authentication is the ability to edit the information on the website. If the information can be easily edited by anyone then the information might always not be right, for instance, Wikipedia, where anyone can create an account an edit the information, without providing any evidence for the provided information. By evaluating all these points, a person can ascertain the authenticity of the information on a website. Lastly, one should always consider their personal judgment to evaluate if the website does feel reliable. References The University of Western Australia. (2016). Wild Nights! Wild Nights! an Example of the Topic Literature Essays by

Wild Nights! Wild Nights! Emily Dickinsons name still resonates among literary critics and psychological readers of today as a poet and lyricist of experiences of human life. The depth, intensity and emotional appeal in her poems give us second life yet again with our own experiences. Readers interested in psychology call her Helpless agoraphobic trapped in her fathers house.(Fuss, 2004, 55) She extricated from her poems what was inessential part of life and left behind trials of what is known as quality life with her experiences virtually true and pure in itself. Henry W. Wells explains another result of her concern with essence, Life is simplified, explained, and reduced to its essence by interpreting the vast whole in relation to the minute particle. (Academic Brooklyn Edu., 2005, Online Edition) Need essay sample on "Wild Nights! Wild Nights!" topic? We will write a custom essay sample specifically for you Proceed Wild Nights! Wild Nights! by Emily Dickinson is a poem of unrestricted sexual passion and the outburst of emotions that come with love. Though small yet the intensity and appeal this poem generated forced Colonel Higginson to comment. One poem only I dread a little to print--that wonderful 'Wild Nights,'--lest the malignant read into it more than that virgin recluse ever dreamed of putting there. Has Miss Lavinia [Emily Dickinson's sister] any shrinking about it? You will understand (Academic Brooklyn Edu., 2003, Online Edition) What he said was the world and life full of sexual narrowness, and the myth of virgin recluse generated around Emily Dickinson. Students Usually Tell EssayLab professionals: Who wants to write paper for me? Professional writers advise: Place your order The poem reflects wish or willingness but the meaning on the onset is dubious, as she said, Were I with thee (that is, if I were with you) and might I but. (Dickinson, 1924, Lines 2 s beauty and depth of words. Compass and charts make travelers think and judge the way to their destination. It implies their reasoning. With the power of reason, they know their right way and control any danger and hindrance stopping their path, but to fruitfully culminate the desire for sexual passion, there is no need for any compass or chart and no need for any sound reasoning. You can find your own way by following the path of your inherent desire. Sea is sign of passion, and by merely following your passion, you can reach your destination for full enjoyment for love and sex. She is remembering nights she termed as Wild but that could be turned into fun filled night gaining all the experiences and richness of what is offered by the wild nights. She intended to say that nothing could stop her, neither the wildness of the nights nor the mans wife she intends to meet. Wildness of nights is the restriction of society imposed on the lovers, but she is saying hopefully nothing could have stopped her from meeting her lover. While spending a recluse life, still a virgin disagreed with the society on the restrictions being imposed on them in the name of religion. She sails her love and passion into the calm seas of Eden and dreams of fighting against the vagaries of societal restrictions. Storms are like various restrictions posing numerous hindrances in her path for the fulfillment of all her desires and what is luxury for males in the patriarchy society is a firmament of love and passion for females, but this flowering of passionate love she cannot advocate. Males with his lust and gratification of appetite bring the fairer sex to their subjugation and women are carried away to their designs. For the people of 1857, luxury meant privilege to enjoy the sex, and this privilege was only for men and women were left undone and unsatisfied. The sequence of seductiveness and withdrawal seems to be particularly enraging to male analysts. Desire is first aroused according to the normal procedures of female seduction by a woman posing herself as an object; but then desire is left unsatisfied by the hysterics insistence on her status as a subject,in these circumstances, analysts say they feel undone, impotent or castrated, and their response is to master their anger and humiliation by turning the hysteric to object status as an item in sexual theory. (Orzeck s whimsical desires. From the sentence Wild Nights should be / Our luxury (Dickinson, 1924, Lines 3 & 4) is a true demand of Emily who also wants if Wild Night is a luxury for men then why not for women. Emily Dickinsons poems expressed the most aspiring experience of the puritan soul with a terribly beautiful intensity. In the puritan religion, women had to keep themselves subordinated to men but when she said he would sail into the seas of Eden, she is futuristic but here too there is an obscurity and duplicity in the meaning Emily wanted to claim. Eden is a garden where Eve was tempted so in the garden of temptation she sails her way into the calmness. Emilys poetry reflects the farthest range of American mind in the trackless region of spirit and within each line, there is not one but different layers of meaning. On one hand she is a symbol of cultural isolation whereas on the other hand she is also a legitimate child of her time. Broom and bonnet, run, stile and overcoat are an inseparable part of her emphatic solitude. In irregularities of speech rhythms, she mirrored the incongruities and frustrations of human experience. The awkwardness in her poetry became a metaphor of life in itself. Rowing in Eden, Ah, the Sea! (Dickinson, 1924, Lines 9 & 10) This stanza can be interpreted in many ways. Eden is temptation and Emily sailing from the Garden of Eden entered into sea. From within these lines, we can also feel she is trying to row in the Garden of Eden seeking God and then sails towards her ultimate destination. Here her destination is her God. In other words, though there are a number of temptations trying to obstruct her path but she is adamant and seeks true love overpowering all the temptations and hindrances and becomes a moor in the wilderness of the night. Wild Nights Wild Nights is so short a poem but has enamored number of critics and writers till today. No one can thoroughly interpret her thoughts in the way she presented them. Several interpreters from Thomas Wentworth Higginson have failed to understand her despair, which is the most crucial part of her poem instead their emphasis was on the eroticism but if we look at the diction, imagery and organization of the poem it is not. At the onset it is very easy to read the poem but we are caught in the web of complexities when we begin to analyze each line. This poem of hers is an enigma of intricacies. Even Paul Farris could not resist in saying that Perhaps no single poem of hers has misled a greater number of knowledgeable critics than her short despairing ejaculation, Wild Night! (Faris, 1967, 269) It appears if we try to open the one door of her only stanza, it leads to other doors. But the central idea of her poem is without doubt despair as it is clear from its heading too Wild Nights! Wild Nights! Wild nights are the symbol of desolation and despair but Emily here has emphasized about the wild nights as a time of luxury but woman find herself in despair even in this time of luxury, even if she wants she is devoid of this luxury. This wilderness is her outburst to catch this luxury filling emotional vacuity. REFERENCE LIST Academic Brooklyn Edu. 2003. Emily Dickson-Love. Retrieved on June 8, 2008 Academic Brooklyn Edu. 2005. In reviewing all the research summaries

In reviewing all the research summaries and listening to all the presentations. I came to a conclusion to which area or zip code was most influenced with Environmental Racism. First of all, I would just like to add that Environmental Racism is not just in Poverty and low-income areas. It can also include high-income areas where they do not offer housing for low-income people into their communities. Most of these areas which were presented, had a pretty good outcome, when I say outcomes I mean that a lot of these communities did not have many toxic chemicals released or transferred into other sites, which is a good sign. The area I choose, which I thought had the most Environmental Racism was zip code 90255. The reason I choose this zip code was because this is a community where more then half of the communities population is not even attending school, it is said that 65% of children from K- College are not enrolled in school which leaves only 35% of the community attending school. As far as Race/Ethnicity 87% of the community are Hispanic which make up more then half of the communities population. As far as the communities economy stands more the half of the community makes less then 39,000 a year, in a household. Which is not very much, considering that most of these households include more then 4 people. Now out of those 87% of Hispanics, we are not really clear of how many of these people in this community are actually citizens in the United State, or can obtain jobs legally, which makes me believe that they are probably getting most of their jobs in the fields or where they don't require legal papers for employment. Most of these jobs are below minimum wage level. It makes it hard for these individuals to get ahead in life if only being able to make a certain amount of money and never being able to exceed. Living in a low-income community has it's consequences, that is, because the government do not really...

Contrastive analysis of perception verbs in English and Arabic Thesis - 1

Contrastive analysis of perception verbs in English and Arabic - Thesis Example (Mina smelled the perfume ) (active) (Meher felt a prick in his thumb) (state). (Meher felt sick). (descriptive) Tahir felt his tie (Active) . (Mazi tasted defeat) (descriptive) Lemon tastes bitter (state) (Jack tasted the warm broth) (Active) Chapter 3: Perception verbs in English 3.1  Ã‚   Introduction This chapter presents a discussion on the perception verbs and their usage in English language. It will develop an understanding of the importance and relevance of the correct forms of perception verbs to the meaning of the sentence and will also highlight the basic issues that non-native learners may face when they try to learn the language. This chapter forms an essential background for the conduction of the contrastive analysis between the Arabic and the English language perception verbs.    3.2 What are Perception Verbs Perception verbs are the verbs that define the actions undertaken by our sensory parts. These are an essential element of any languag e as these have the capacity to explain and display a diverse variety of human behavoiurs and nuances. In semantics, perception verbs have been a subject of much debate and research owing to the complexity of their usage as well as their capacity to be modified in language use. The field of perception verbs is one of the important semantic fields that received the attention of linguists since 1970s, along with other semantic fields like basic color terms (Berlin and Kay 1969), body parts (Andersen 1978), cooking verbs (Lehrer 1974), and motion verbs (Talmy 1975). However, while other subjects and aspects of language have been explored in order to assess the richness of the language or to explore the richness with which concepts can be expressed, perception verbs are of interest due to their difficulty to translate into other languages. Perception verbs relate to the active usage of language and portrat not only the perceptions, but often the emotions and the conceptions as well. Thi s makes the usage of the perception verbs complex and difficult to translate in different languages.    Also, other elements of the language like the nouns, vocabulary etc., are easy to learn as these are governed by simple rules of grammar. These semantic fields share universal elements, and exist frequently in many languages. It is a well-known fact that in order to recognize the typological shape of any language, we must be aware of â€Å"the distinctive character of its structure in relation to other languages based mainly on work in general typology, and on contrastive analysis and other types of cross linguistic studies† (Viberg, 2006, p.3). Perception verbs have also â€Å"supplied a rich field of research in linguistics including grammaticalisation, complementation and semantic change† (Ibarretxe-Antunano, 1999, p. 41).      The complexity associated with the perception verbs has its roots in the variety of modes in which perception is understood. Percept ion is a basic human process through which they are able to access external inputs and make sense of their surroundings. However, academic definition of perception is varied as different scholars tend to define perception differently. The definition of perception is essential to understand as it has a direct impact on the development and usage of the perception verbs. Sekuler and Blake defined it as â€Å"a biological process wherein the brain derives descriptions
